I had purchased a new XUV 300 ( Mahindra & Mahindra ) vehicle in March 2022. At the time of purchase , the car insurance was done by ‘ Go Digit General Insurance Ltd ‘ & it had the ‘Nil Depreciation’ option .
At the time of 1st renewal of the car insurance , I received a call from one of the company personnel saying that my car insurance was due for renewal & I was sent a link for making the payment for renewal of insurance . Accordingly I renewed the policy by paying the premium of Rs 9906.74 on 8th March 2023 . At the time of renewal no mention was made of the ‘Nil Dep ‘ feature being an ‘add on ‘ .
Unfortunately my vehicle met with an accident on 31st October 2023 & I approached the insurance company mentioned above with the required details & documentation. The surveyor from the insurance company informed me that i had not taken the ‘ nil Dep ‘ add on & hence I would have to bear part of the cost of the repair of my car . When I called the ‘ Customer Service ‘ of the company , I was told that I should have taken the ‘ Nil Dep ‘ option as an add-on . When I told the concerned person that I had not been informed about the same , she told me that I was supposed to know these things !
When I have not been informed of the fact that ‘ Nil Dep ‘ is an add-on at renewal & I have not asked for any of the features to be dropped from my policy , how can the Insurance company drop the ‘ Nil Dep ‘ option without as much as informing me of the same .
I had to pay Rs 19470.56 from my side as the policy was unilaterally renewed by the company without including the ‘Nil Dep ‘ option.
I therefore request the consumer forum to look into the matter & ensure that justice prevails ! The company must unequivocally make it clear to the insured what all is included in the package that is offered to the consumer !
